Jānis is a photographer based in Liepaja, Latvia. His work has been represented in solo and collective exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Jānis teaches photo courses and also runs a photo club, Liepājas Pozitīvs.

Q&A

How did you start with photo/video?
I started taking pictures 50 years ago when my father gave me my first camera, a 6x6 Lubitel. Since then, photo has been in my life through all times. For the past 15 years I have been a professional photographer.
How would you describe your style?
Classic photo style. I very often try something new and like to experiment.
What inspires you?
Nature, the sea, light and works of other photographers.
What is your dream shoot or project?
To publish a beautiful photo book about the life of the stage and behind the scenes of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra.
What is your best advice to others that want to develop as photographers?
It is never too late to start!

What is in your bag?

What is the most important in your bag?
First, a couple of good cameras, Canon EOS DsR, Canon EOS R and Canon PowerShot G1 X marc II. I also have Canon ER 24-105 L IS USM, Canon EF 70-200 F2,8 IS USM II, Canon fishayes EF 15mm and Canon EF 17-40 F4 lenses as well as various other stuff and a good mood.
What bag do you use?
I use Lowepro Nova 200AW, Lowepro Nova 4 AW , Flipside 400AW II and another small bag.
