The optical design features 15 elements in 11 groups, including ASP, HR and ED lens elements to deliver sharp and detailed results from the centre to the edges of the frame. The bright F2.8 aperture provides strong low-light performance and makes the lens a capable option for nightscapes and astrophotography.
Unlike many super-wide zoom lenses, the AF 14-24mm F2.8 L supports 77mm front filters. This makes it easier to work with ND and polarising filters, giving photographers and filmmakers greater creative control when shooting landscapes, long exposures, video and outdoor scenes.
With a minimum focusing distance of just 0.18m and up to 0.26x magnification, the lens also allows bold close-up compositions with dramatic wide-angle perspective. Fast and quiet Linear STM autofocus ensures reliable focusing for both stills and video, while the AF/MF switch, focus hold button and weather sealing add extra confidence in a wide range of shooting situations.
