Tamron 12-20mm F2.8 - Fast ultra-wide-angle zoom for Sony E-mount
The 12mm wide end gives a dramatic field of view, making it possible to capture large scenes, open landscapes and tight indoor spaces. The bright F2.8 aperture is available throughout the full zoom range, giving greater flexibility in low light and helping users work with consistent exposure when zooming.
Inside, the lens features an advanced optical construction with 17 elements in 12 groups. This includes one XGM element, three GM elements and multiple special lens elements. The design helps reduce peripheral blur and color fringing, while delivering sharp and clear results from the centre to the edges of the frame.
The optical construction also corrects sagittal coma flare, a common challenge when photographing stars and night scenes. This makes the lens a strong choice for astrophotography, night landscapes and other subjects where edge-to-edge detail is important.
Despite its ultra-wide range and bright aperture, the lens is lightweight and easy to carry. The Sony E-mount version weighs only 570g. This makes it a practical choice for travel, outdoor photography and handheld shooting.
Autofocus is powered by Tamron’s VXD linear motor focus mechanism, which delivers fast, precise and quiet focusing for both stills and video. The lens also offers strong close-up performance, with a minimum object distance of 0.18m at the wide end and 0.28m at the tele end. This allows users to create images with a strong foreground and a dramatic ultra-wide perspective.
The Tamron 12-20mm F2.8 is also designed for practical use in the field. It includes an integrated rear filter holder, a 12-blade circular diaphragm, moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine coating. The lens also has an integrated flower-shaped lens hood and is compatible with Tamron Lens Utility for custom settings in both still and video work.
