Spotting scopes, also called field scopes, are compact, tripod-mountable daylight telescopes, providing more magnification than standard field binoculars. The most common areas of usage is nature, bird and wildlife watching or observing the sky both during day and night. Spotting scopes can also be used with digiscoping adapters to mount digital cameras or even smartphones for long-range photography.

Spotting scopes are available in two different types, one with a straight body from the objective lens to the eyepiece. The other one has an angled body, which is straight from the objective lens and then angled with a 45° imaging-prism housing (in which the eyepiece is attached to). We offer a variety of spotting scopes from high quality brands such as, Kowa, Celestron, Ricoh/Pentax and Focus Sport Optics.

The general recommendation is to always, regardless of area of use, invest in a spotting scope with good optical quality.  If you will use the spotting scope in all weather conditions, chose a waterproof spotting scope that will withstand rain and harsh wind.

Spotting scopes for bird watching

Bird watching is much more interesting and fun when you use a spotting scope. Magnification is one the most important factors when looking at birds. You often need to look at the birds from a long distance as they will fly away if they spot you. The objective lens diameter should be rather big, which will provide a bright image. We offer many variants of high-quality spotting scopes for bird watching, we have models with both fixed and variable zoom.

Spotting scopes for astronomy

When you are observing the night sky during low light conditions, it is vital that the spotting scope has a large objective lens diameter in order to catch more light. To observe the brightest objects in the night sky, such as the moon, planets, and open clusters, you need a magnification of at least 60x. We offer a good variety of spotting scopes for sky observation from brands such as Celestron and Focus Sport Optics.

Spotting Scopes for nature observation

Spotting scopes also work well for nature observation. If you would like to see as far away as possible, you need a spotting scope with great magnification. If the image quality is more important than magnification, you should go with a large objective lens diameter, which also have a good lens coating.
